As there are literally thousands of books and articles on Nakahara Chûya that have been published throughout the decades, we cannot realistically offer a full bibliography. Even one divided by years or publishers would be a formidable task.

Those wishing to compile a bibliography or search for books on Nakahara Chûya (or any other author) using on-line resources will find Webcat Plus an essential resource:

The newest version accepts input in both Japanese and English, and is offered through the National Institute of Informatics’ homepage. Although Webcat Plus is one of the most thorough on-line resources for compiling bibliographies or searching for books by author or subject, it is by no means complete. Its database for journal articles, especially older ones, is limited.

At least for now, nothing beats going to a good library. And among libraries holding Japanese printed matter, perhaps nothing beats the National Diet Library:

For modern literature, another excellent library with extensive archives is the Museum of Modern Japanese Literature:

The Waseda University and scattered Tokyo University libraries are excellent as well, but are generally restricted to students and affiliates. The East Asian library at the University of California, Berkeley, however, has the largest Japanese collection in the world outside Japan, and is open to the public:

We list below some essential Nakahara Chûya books that we believe should be on any bibliography of the poet. We will be citing Japanese sources in both English and Japanese; computers without Japanese enabled will not be able to see all the information. Also, we use courier script because we believe its uniform spacing allows for easier viewing. We will update this list from time to time, as new books come to our attention.
